This 42 second excerpt from the film
Oldboy (C-W Park, 2003, copyright © 2003 SHOWEAST) demonstrates the effect of jump cuts. In order to comply with the Fair Use
doctrine in teaching and research, resolution is limited to 360p and the clip has been shortened to only encompass the subject of interest.
Jump cuts are also commonly used to shrink down long-lasting actions to make their evolutions more apparent. In the following excerpt, jump cuts are used to shorten a training session and emphasize the character’s determination to survive in his jail cell.
